Three words that describe you?

Determined, hardworking, go getter.

Who are your role models and mentors?

My partner, father of my children was my mentor. He taught me how to be good, fast and efficient at my job. Now I am a very well known female roofer.

What is your favorite thing about your current job?

Shingling, I love shingling and doing detailed work. There’s just something about looking at my work when it is completed that is so satisfying about it.

What originally got you interested in your current field of work?

Well originally I wanted to be a hairdresser, but I took time off school and decided I wanted to do construction work for a bit because I was tired of living pay cheque to pay cheque. I did some labor work, steel stud framing and dry walling then I heard about this all female roofing company. That peaked my interest because you know, empowering women ehh. So, I applied there, absolutely fell in love with roofing! The long days, hard work, and the determination it gave me to get better at it, and I did!

When you started your current job, what most surprised you?

How heavy the bundles are! Lol those things are not easy to move!

Do you have an embarrassing or funny story you can share about work or something that has happened at work?

I roofed while I was very pregnant with my fourth baby, the funny thing was seeing me with my big belly roofing away like it was nothing. Some homeowners were not okay with it lol but I was so used to being on the roof my OB told me as long as I am comfortable.

Do you have any suggestions on how to encourage more women to try a career in the trades?

Absolutely, creating a social media platform was the best idea! I have a fan page on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. I’m constantly showing people how capable us women are, I do that by making video content on my pages. I get so many messages from women telling me how inspiring I am to them. I feel so honoured and humbled to have that effect on my fellow trade's women.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career choice?

My partner, if it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have gotten this far

What does your family think of your career?

They are my biggest supporters and so proud of me.

If you could do anything, besides what you're doing now, what would you do?

Maybe be a hairdresser like originally planned.

What was the first thing you wanted to be when you grew up?

I don't know I think it was a lawyer or a doctor lol

What type of role do you want to take on after this one?

I hope to one day get into motivational speaking I want to share my experiences and tell my story. I also want to start a program for women to get into roofing. You can make so much money doing it and we have so much work but not enough roofers!!!

What do you remember most about your first job?

It was boring lol I was working in a bakery. I applied for cashier and that’s where they put me!

How old were you when you started working?

16

What is the worst job you’ve ever had?

Probably that bakery job lol

What are people always surprised to discover about you?

That I’m Facebook famous lol

Who is your favorite person in the world?

Can I choose all my kid’s? No? Ok I'd have to go with my partner. I love him so much and very thankful for what we have created together. Life wasn’t always perfect for us, but he conquered his demons and made many changes for us. I could not imagine life without him.

What is the craziest thing you hope to do one day?

Oh I don’t know, maybe hopefully become a millionaire! Lol I’m super passionate about helping people if I ever have the money to do it, I want to be able to help the less fortunate.

Anything else you would like to add or comment on?

Nope, just thank you for picking me to share part of my story. It has put a lot of thought back into my head!
